Sunday 3/4/2018 Sermon Discussion Questions
Sermon Discussion Questions
1. Take some time and read all four of the Gospel Writers’ accounts of Jesus’ time in the garden at Gethsemane on the night of His betrayal (Matthew 26:36-56; Mark 14:32-52; Luke 22:39-53; and John 18:1-11). What similarities and what variations did you notice?
2. Luke tell us as Jesus prayed during His time of sorrow that He was strengthened by this… (see Luke 22:43). Where do you find your strength when you are facing hardships? How has your own prayer life been a comfort to you when you are in times of sorrow?
3. Our Lord’s actions in the garden give validity to the thought that Jesus is the only way to salvation. Read and discuss the following passages: John 14:6; Acts 4:12; 1 Timothy 2:5 Why do you think there are so many who refuse to acknowledge what Jesus did for them and that He is the only way and truth and life?
The Garden of Gethsemane shows Jesus at one of His most vulnerable moments in the Gospel story. He is only hours away from the beatings, humiliation, torture, and His death on the cross. He knows what is about to come and yet His prayer to the Father is, “Not my will but Yours be done.” This is the greatest picture of God’s love for you! Spend some time in prayer thanking God for His amazing love and for the demonstration of that amazing love through His Son our Lord and Savior Jesus.
