Why Love is Important
Lesson 3 “Why Love is Important”
Sermon Take Home Discussion Questions
“The three most important things to have are faith, hope and love. But the greatest of them is love.” 1 Corinthians 13:13 (NIRV)
1) When asked “What is the greatest commandment?” Jesus responded by saying it’s to love God and love one another (Matthew 22:36-39). Have you thought about love as a “Command” of the Lord before? Why do you think Jesus called it the greatest commandment?
2) In addition to a command, this lesson further described love as a choice, a conduct and a commitment. Do you see one of these as more important than the other? How would you order them in importance and why?
3) The Bible teaches that “God IS love” (1John 4:8). What are the attributes of God’s love and how might you try to apply them in your own relationships?
4) The CEV translates 1 John 4:8, “God is love. If we keep on loving others, we will stay one in our hearts with God, and He will stay one with us.” What do you think it meas to be “one in our hearts with God”?
